Problems Accessing emails on iPhone

Hi
I need some advice please. Has anyone else had problems accessing their emails on gmail account on their iPhone?
When I tried to log onto my gmail account on my computer I had to change my password as my password was incorrect. But now I wished I hadn't done that as it has now caused me problems when checking my emails on my iPhone! I keep getting an error message on my phone. I have googled to see how to rectify the problem but I'm none the wiser. I had previously set up a two step verification password to try and resolve this problem but I wonder if this is the root cause? I have now deleted my gmail account on my phone and tried to set it up again but it keeps saying incorrect password and I am now back to square one!
Help! Any ideas anyone?
