Forgot to include tariff; £8 per month with Vodafone, 300mb data, 300 texts and 500 mins. Although nowadays ds and friends use whatsapp and viber and Skype with wifi usage at home. There is wifi on the greenbus too.

We opted for the Samsung Galaxy Young. It's on a 24 month contract from Tesco who have teamed up with O2. A monthly fee of £7.50 gets 250min. talk time, 5000 texts and 500mb of data. As has been said before, the main application used is "WhatsApp" off the WiFi at home. Dd has had hers since December and has yet to use up her monthly quota of talk time. The only condition we stipulated was that any locking password was revealed to us.

Thank you very much for your replies. I have a clearer idea of what children are using at school and will now have a think about our budget, my daughter's needs and take it from there. Looks like " anything goes" which is always a useful starting point.
