Home Schooling web sites - recommendations

Hello
I use Khanacademy website quite extensively for a number of children I home tutor.
This is a great web site for all levels starting at a basic level and moving to advanced level.
This site is a great resource to counter any weak teaching at school.
It's quite straight forward to use.
I will post some KS3 web sites for maths; it's a great site.

This is NOT a good website - it's american and does not support the methods children need to pass GCSE.
I am not being negative but cannot promote a poor website - there are MANY better for maths and sciences.

I've had a look at khan out of interest. Have to say that I'm with g55 on this one. I didn't feel it fitted the way subjects are taught. Might be ok for the odd topic that a child hasn't quite got to grips with, but using it as a main resource probably isn't a good idea.
And I'm not a teacher.

Three kids with Maths A*'s today using khan academy for revision.
This is a great web site and is a great aid to any poor standards of teaching.
I can recommend it to be used alongside anything else.

Sorry that proves nothing ... please stop.
It's American, it doesn't fit our syllabuses, it uses some inappropriate methods, .... I could go on but will resist.

Using the wrong methods in GCSE maths will lead to the loss of a huge amount of the marks available. Better to use the sites and books recommended by the school, the exam board spec and past papers.
Have you got shares in Khan sbarnes?

I am locking this thread because there is a real concern about how appropriate the recommended site is for UK pupils.
The question mark over the Khan Academy has arisen before, and we do try to ensure that every educational recommendation made on the forum is of the very highest quality. In this case, I don't feel that we can be certain of that.
I haven't removed the thread from the forum but, by leaving it here, I hope it will give parents the opportunity to explore your recommendation and then make their own minds up on the issue, whether it be from scrutiny of the website itself or from the replies here.
