Interesting programming books/software for Year 6 kids ?

Post by indiemom »

After the main 11+ focus, the kids are now looking to put their hands on some kind of programming thing like making their own games which they can put on their websites etc.

Was looking around the net and am confused what is will be better suited for them. Is any app builder programming thing suitable to keep them busy or they might find it hard ? may be I need to buy a few to check how they take on.

But what to buy initially is becoming the big question mark. :D

Any feedback from parents who have bought something similar for their kids ?

You can download scratch (from MIT) for free, which is a good start. MIT also do an app builder for android phone, again free to download. My DD managed to make a couple of apps for her phone using it, but has not continued (but then she is refusing to embrace her inner geek  )

Both are very easy to use, and scratch is a very good intro to programming.

And another eta

Kobu is quite good once they've had enough of Scratch.
