Thank you everyone - it's good to know we're not alone. I have already suggested to him that he should slow down and when he does there is a definite improvement. However, he claims that they have time pressures on them at school so he is required to write quickly in order to finish the task. I think I will keep experimenting with different pens, and speak to his teacher at parents' evening which is coming up after half term. Thanks again.

My son had exactly the same problem. His teachers were telling him to keep up,but he needed to slow down to write neatly. Sort of 'catch two' situation going on here. It must be frustrating for them!
