Thanks 2childmum that was really useful. I have read other people say Trinity is good for brass... I think he will be changing his teacher after this summer so maybe that is something to explore with his new teacher. I had heard that about pieces and the way the marking works. I had heard it was easier to pass but harder to get distinctions. Don't know how true that is but I know dd certainly prefers the technical pieces and I think ds would too...
I think my ds is way too competitive with his sister not to want to do exams
In fact he has been very good at exams (distinctions every time) and yet really struggles to perform in front of a big audience. Dd also does well in exams (but more merits than distinctions) but she LOVES playing in a concert/music festival setting...!
