2 night stay South East france peak 2016, been a bit daft

Post by Yamin151 »

Hi all

Can anyone help
. Long shot but have saved £500 on flights to carcassonne in frcance or next summer, but means us leaving our holiday vote with two nights to fill. Grabbed flights without thinking, but of course now we are finding that no apartments want to take us for just two nights in high season.
It am trawling air bnb, which is brilliant but again, all so far want minimum of a week, which is reasonable of course.

Any ideas from anyone? Our gite is near carcassonne and my idea was to go an hour and a half or so out to med coast and stay there for could days, then back to carcassonne for flight.

Thanks!

TripAdvisor have accommodation for 1 night+. We stayed near Beziers airport in a sweet small village house for a night when we grabbed a cheap flight after staying in Collioure.

I'll check trip advisor thank you.

Am a bit disappointed said like this to be a two day holiday extension in a nice beach pplate, rather than a 'just before we fly back' place to lay our heads if you see what I mean. Trip advisor very good idea though.

have sometimes managed to find short (few days) self catering stays for family by searching aparthotel or apparthotel (?) - they often don't have such long minimum stays

STrifling to find, only seeming to come up with boutique type hotels. Is That you meant or can you possibly post a link?

Thankyou

Have you thought of trying Uzes which is approx an hour inland. There is loads to see and all the locals use the river Gardon as their beach. It is stunning with lots of fabulous walks and beaches along it's length, there are caves and a hermitage, Olive oil factories and of course vineyards. Plus the amazing Pont du Gard roman aqueduct (which you can conoo down river to) and in Nimes the best preserved roman amphitheatre (could have been built yesterday). You will probably find it easier to find a b&b and a lot cheaper than the coast.

Try the foothills of the Pyrenees. 1hr from Carcassone, Mirepoix is lovely, Mont D'Olmes, Montferrier. Stunning views.

These are wonderful ideas of places to visit. However it's the accommodation thats the issue, rather than ideas of where to go. We'd really likes he coast for a couple of days. We are spending almost two weeks inland, so it's ideas on how to circumvent the week minimum stay issue I would like to try.

However, these places do sound wonderful. And worth exploring during the time we are inland anyway.

Suspect we may have to go to hotel and swallow the extra cost.

Try the Canvas Holidays website (and they are also very helpful on the phone) to see if they have a presence on any campsites nearby. We stayed with them at a fantastic French campsite this summer, in a very comfy mobile home, and the were plenty of families staying for one or two nights breaking a journey to or from the south coast of France, or further afield. The advantage is that you will have campsite facilities/activities to entertain the children - it's not just accommodation you are paying for. The disadvantage is you have to make up the beds yourself! You can hire linen packs though.
