I have been told that the test for year 8 entry consists of numeracy, literacy and problem solving.

Do you think this is the same as numeracy, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning or should there be different things we should be looking at??

It depends on the school.

Many schools set their own tests for year 8 entry, so they will not necassearily follow thw same format as the 11+.

One GS (which is also a language school) I know set exams in:
English
Maths
One language

Another GS set exams in
English
Maths
sciences ( I cannot remember if it is one exam for all the three sciences or one exam in each science)

The format of the exam will be explain in the convocation letter that you will receive... or if you are to impatient to know before getting this letter, try to ask the school directly.

Best wishes to your DC!

This is all the school admissions will say.

Maybe you could ask if there will be two or three papers?
There is problem solving because the new maths GCSE has far more problem solving than the current GCSE.
What I know is that you have to aim high as there will be other children sitting the test and there will be some chalenging questions in the test in order for the school to find the best mathematician!
For English, maybe a good start would be the old SATs sat at 14 to verify that your DC perform well with these ones?
(I am not an English teacher; this is what crosses my mind)

good luck for the prep!
