Study Leave

I think that depends on the school, to be fair. I have worked with children in the run-up to GCSEs who for various medical reasons have been very far behind indeed, but they were still sent off on study leave.Study leave even at GCSE, AS and A-level is only given if the school have good faith in the child to do some actual studying. If they believe a child is academically behind, they will not allow study leave and continue all progress at school.

Gosh! Not at the schools that I have worked in. They try to get the kids to the highest possible grades they can achieve, and if study leave is counter productive to that end, they have no hesitation in preventing it.
It actually works as quite a good carrot for the less enthusiastic ones
You're right, all schools implement their own policies so it would be best to check with your one.
