My son has a homework planner which shows that officially he should get 3 pieces of homework a night, lasting 20-30 mins each. It doesn't always seem to work out like that though. Some nights he does spend an hour or more on it; other times only 10 mins.
What I have noticed though, is that those days where he appears to get no homework are when there is a test looming. (Or as one of his teachers puts it: " a learning opportunity" - Love it!) So, possibly if your son doesn't seem to be getting much, he is supposed to be spending the time revising? If DS1 tells me he's got no homework, I say - "Right, get out your German vocab book then" and test him on it. But then, I've always been a meanie!

When you say 'German vocab book ' do you mean the text book from the shcool?
