UKMT maths summer school

I'm confused, we've been told DS score was 47/54 which is an A grade but not a distinction and he's not been invited to the summer school.

Possibly he's too young? Which paper did he sit?
From what I've read they have to be 14 for a summer school invite based on Hamilton and Maclaurin papers. As he is only year 8 I would guess he sat Cayley.

47/54 and A grade doesn't seem to make any sense? All 3 Cayley/Hamilton/Maclaurin papers are out of 60 I think, and the UKMT don't give grades, just Merit/Distinction/medals.

Definitely the Cayley and out of 54. Who knows! Actually, maybe she said he wasn't good enough to get in the top 100 so maybe it was a distinction. No idea!

Sounds very frustrating! Are the school as opaque about everything else?

DD1 has had her Olympiad papers back each year, no secrecy, lol.
