End of year 7 levels survey

Post by Catherine »

There has been a few topics about current year 7 grades
http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum/ ... php?t=2742
http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum/ ... 2670#32670

and I think that it would be interesting to compare the end of year 7 levels in any type of school.
It would be great to have year 6 SATs levels, year 7 levels in most subjects, your region and the type of school (comp, grammar, independent etc.) and any other comment that you find useful.

It is probably best to keep this anonymous, so for once 'guest' posts are welcome.

Are these teacher assessments? Some school do the optional tests - I think it would be helpful to know how the levels were arrived at!!

As a maths teacher the 7b looks over optimistic! I can't believe the topics for level 6 and level 7 have all been covered in one year!!! QCA optional tests put a 6a ceiling on Y7 levels

Hi Guest55,
I am sure that there is some variation in the way schools assess the levels, and some schools will tend to give higher grades than others.
But, as I understand it, the levels correspond to precisely defined sets of skills (lots of tick boxes :? )
Surely the schools must be able to give a reasonably accurate assessment?

It is the teacher assessment, but I have got some tests that she did this year in front of me, and they are SATs past test papers.
They started with KS3 tier 4-6, and the latest ones are KS3 tier 5-7.
