The OT explained to me that because DS has low muscle tone and lax joints due to hypermobility writing is much more effortful for him than for other children so to be called lazy is really not helpful. DS also has pain in his hands if he writes for any length of time and this leads to fatigue and avoiding behaviour.

No, quite. Similar with one of mine. Hopefully the kind of work an OT suggests will enable writing to be fast and sufficiently legible by the time public exam age is achieved. Otherwise adjustments would need to be made.
