Re: Does the expense get better or worse?
We have a bucket of water outside the kitchen door and two scrubbing brushes, they are not allowed lunch until the boots look marginally like footwear again. For less filthy occasions, like the last few drier weeks I have packs of tesco floor cloths, they are big enough that one cloth does a boot, and wet enough to shift dried mud, but they can't make too much mess using them, the boots always look a bit grim though. Every few months I do clean them properly, put a layer of sports wax on, and make them look lovely and new, normally with both kids and dh looking at me like I am bonkers.kenyancowgirl wrote:Okanagan - at what age did you manage to get ds1 to clean his own boots? I have failed miserably - they are both quite happy, if I have not cleaned them, to squash their feet into mud encrusted, practically concrete set, boots - even if they are a bit stiff to run in initially. The only time they did clean them - it took me ages to tidy up afterwards and the boots were so wet that they didn't dry in time for the next outing....!
Dh shrank two pairs of rugby socks this week by putting them into tumbler on hot with other kit as he was trying to rush dry them. that cost us £16! Had he asked I would of course suggested he used the kits hanging up in the airing cupboard!

I bow before your superior parenting! No, seriously, I do! I could no mo get mine to scrub their boots than fly!! Not that I do it either, but you really do seem very good at getting them to do stuff, whereas I seem to spend an inordinate amount of my day, yes, you guessed it, nagging!!southbucks3 wrote:We have a bucket of water outside the kitchen door and two scrubbing brushes, they are not allowed lunch until the boots look marginally like footwear again. When it is 10deg and threatening to hail outside like this morning and mum is inside cooking hot dogs, the appeal of hurrying up and scrubbing your boots so you can shower off heightens I am not a good parent, I am a shouty, naggy mum who, like you, gets so sick of hearing myself nag that I sometimes just let out a huge sigh and suppress the tears instead.
