Our youngest daughter just changed Grammar Schools recently. Because the school she wanted to move to was over its published admission number, we had to go to appeal. However, it all happened very quickly and, thankfully, we were successful.

Thanks Headcorn Mum,

That is useful, however I dont think I asked the right thing exactly,

what I really need to know, is if we were to move out of area, Christopher is in Grammer at present, can I just apply out of county for a transfer?

Thanks

Cindy?

Dear Cindy

If you moved to Bucks your child would have to sit 'our' Late transfer test [VR] From Bucks CC...

• If your child has already been through a
selection process with another council, or is
already at a grammar school in another
county, they will still need to be tested for
suitability for a Buckinghamshire grammar
school using our test.

Yes in Bucks that's at KS3 (except for RGS and Becky High - the Foundation schools)- for KS4 you need to approach the school and sit curriculum tests.

If you are thinking of moving your son from a Kent grammar to a grammar school in a different county then the short answer to your question is that there is no set procedure. The fact that he is at a grammar school in one LEA does not mean that he is automatically eligible for a place at a grammar in another LEA.

Your best bet is probably to phone individual schools in the area(s) to which you are considering moving. Ask them whether they have any spaces in the relevant year group and, if so, what the application procedure entails.
