DD's NVR scores dropping - help!

Post by Doblinski »

DD was getting a pretty reasonalbe av score for NVR with her tutor, which has dropped to 80% recently as the amount of questions has increased.

We did her first NFER/Letts multiple choice paper recently and she got only 60% (arent test papers meant to be easier than the GS exams!!??) - we are now quite worried. Her VR is fine no problems. DD also has become quite dispondent about NVR and doesn't like it anymore.

Any suggestions as to what we can do to:
A) Improve her rating
B) Encourage and her along a bit as it seems to be making her miserable now :( . Thanks very much

If it was paper A (the original) it is supposed to be notoriously difficult.

NVR scores do tend to drop if the child is tired or stressed out. My DD is very good at NVR but still tends to make some silly mistakes at times. Hence I make sure that she does NVR first thing, when her mind is fresh and relaxed, before starting on any other bit of work. I have seen some improvement.

Then again like mitasol said, Nfer Paper A is rather difficult and the scores on that paper generally tend to be less than the other 3 papers.
