My child will take her 11 plus in the end of 2007/early 2008. She seemed to be quite ok with her NVR right upto the 10 to 11 Bond book. Now we have started trying the 10 to 11 plus book (last in their series). I wanted her to try this before starting practise on the NFER stuff in year 6. However, she is faring very badly - getting atleast 20 to 25 mistakes per sheet. What surprises me is that she was scoring nearly 100% in the earlier books. Should I withdraw my child from taking the 11 plus? Please help.....

For my son the Bond 10-11 were same difficulty as the Nfers. You still have lots of time. Amazing what can be achieved in 6 months. There are some difficult question types that simply need to be learnt. You can't expect your child to 'get it' straight away without lots of practice.

Yeah! Stick to it!! My son , who is having exams in 2007/8 scores anything from 82% to 98% , but it all depends on the day, level of concentration etc. thre is though general improvement. Do do not give up! Your daughter has nothing to lose by sitting exams and tutoring only improve her skills.

Hi there!
Please don't panic! Judging by your initial experience with BOND youR child clearly has a good aptitude for this type of test anyway! The key to unlocking my own son's understanding of this type of activity was to use the ACCELERATED LEARNING books - there are two on NON-VERBAL REASONING. These break-down the various methodology involved in decoding such strange activities. Your child will then have the strategies in place to quickly identify certain types of question. DON'T give-up! We started 8 weeks before the exam itself and my son gain a very respectable pass in his 11+.

Hope this helps.

Andrew

Andrew,
Are you referring to AE's workbooks for non-verbal reasoning? Where can I order the books you are suggesting?
thanks,
KV

Yes, that's the one! These books are really progressive in their methodology and should quickly increase speed and confidence.
Good Luck!
