ed psych report - extra time

tigger2 wrote:Hi...I'm fairly new to this forum but have just read this thread with great interest..I joined the forum with my year 5 child in mind but also have a year 3 child currently on school action plus. The local school cluster group (we are in Kent) got a specialist cognitive learning expert in to assess her. She is having a very hard time with regard literacy and sees a dyslexia tutor twice a week .However she did very well in nvr and the IQ test gave a result of 145. My question is with regards the 11+ and Sats ..does anyone know if you have to have an ed psych report done to enable her to have extra time for these tests? Thanks in advance!!

Hi, my daugter has dyslexia, which she recieves help for at school. She has never been seen by an ed psychologist as the school gives her the help she needs. She is taking herts 11+ and some independent school enterance tests. I rang the various herts schools to see what evidence they needed for her to get extra time and a reader for the exam. They said ideally ed psychologist report, but cannot demand this, so as we didnt have one, a SENCO report from school would be fine. We thought about getting her tested as have been waiting 18months for parental referal via NHS, but it was too expensive to do this privatley. In the end we went just with senco report and she has been given 25% extra time and a reader for herts test and independent schools test too!

Thank you so much for the info on this. I have found out today that as far as the Kent Gs are concerned you won't get extra time for the 11+ but with regard the sats she should be given extra time but it is best to ask for this in writing! It is such a minefield isn't it? Once again, thank you for your post! Tigger x

Can I just say that an EP's report is not a guarantee of extra time. In Bucks hardly anyone seems to get extra time. My son has several problems is covered by DDA and has an EP report stating he will need extra time in exams but it was refused. You can't take anything for granted.
