Oh, Snowdrops, sorry to hear that. Good to hear your dd can cope - for the most part - not unlike my daughter - she too can cope for the most part.

It is good for me to know there are others out there for whom life isn't straightforward (although you may not agree). I feel rather humble to moan. I tend to think I'm the only mum in the world with problems. Of course I'm not. I'm just always moaning and apologise about that, but at the same time thank you all for the support you give me.

Anyway, back to the question. You may be right about funding, dd2's not on the special needs register now - I think she just has a care plan - but I am not totally sure. Do school have to ask me to put her on special needs? So long as she isn't treated differently too obviously or frequently, she won't mind. I don't mind.

Bet you have a lovely daughter. Anyone with a name like Snowdrops has to have a lovely daughter. Disability or condition or whatever.

Well they rang me to ask for my permission, so I assumed they needed it. I agreed to her name being added as it seemed churlish not to, it felt as if I'd be depriving the children of money (the school didn't make me feel that way, it was my own personal thoughts).

Only a very few people know of my daughter's difficulties. All the teachers know (or are supposed to) and she has a specialist come in to obseve her in class once a term, but no-one (apart from dd and teacher) knows why the observer is there, and she is treated no differently from anyone else. It's such a difficult time for them. They're trying to fit in with eveyone else and they just have these extra difficulties hanging over them. She will acknowledge things in her own good time I expect.

My older DC seem to have filled in a lot of higher education / employment forms recently and there is always the 'extra form' about ethnicity / disability etc. All (I've checked) ask the usual SEN questions etc. and also, in the same section, whether the 'candidate / applicant' has an unseen disability and then goes on to offer examples e.g. diabetes, asthma, epilepsy etc.

Offering a 'tick box' for unseen disability is something I've noticed come up much more often in recent years; I'm pretty sure it wasn't on such forms when kids were little.

They may just be collecting stats but typically in employment (and I assume higher ed) the purpose will be to establish whether the candidate requires any adjustments to the application process or the work environment to accomodate their disability.
