Just reading thru some of the threads, and i keep reading about Mock exams.
Does anybody know if there are to be any for the Alcester Grammer School area ?

Thanks.

There are only unofficial mock exams around the west midlands area from various organisations and just about all of these would be pretty useless for the Alcester Grammar exam as these are set by Univ of Durham CEM

Hi Ken,

You seems to know a lot concerning preparation for 11+.
Do you know how useful these mock tests are ? Are they as difficult as the true tests? In the same format? In a nutshell, are they useful in term of what we pay for?

If anybody, has gone down this route, could he/she share his/her experience?

Thanks in advance :D

As I said in my earlier post, I personally think these mock tests are useless.

The problem is that most mock tests are based on traditional NFER type questions, the Warwicksire (and B/Ham Grammar & KE exams) is a completely different exam and very much harder.

Up till last year the Sutton Girls and Bishop Vesey exams in B/Ham used to be NFER and was held a couple of weeks before the KE exams. Many parents entered their child for these exams as a 'mock' for the KE Exams but the value was dubious. Don't think there is much value to be gained by building up a child's confidence with 'easy' exams only to knock it down with the real 11+.

A bit like entering a child for a GCSE maths exam as a mock for A level maths!

Thank you very much for your reply!
When I had heard about these mock tests, I thought that could be useful to teach my child to be QUICK (he is always slow to begin his work- kind of a dreamer :( ), but once immersed in his work, he can be quick... I hoped these mocks could help me to teach him to be quick from the first second... What a pity they are not challenging enough :(
