Hi all and apologies if this is in the wrong place!

I just wanted some info from someone who knows what's what!
I had parents evening last night and as usual heard pretty good things. My eldest DD is in year 5, probably mid range for age in class, she'll be 10 in mid Feb. I asked her teacher if she is GS material and she said that yes, she feels so, although school not geared to it therefore no prep at school. She told me that her maths is already towards end of year 6 level, but her English is a bit weaker...4A for maths but only 4C for English, although both improving and likely to be at level 5 before year 6. I'm confused (not hard!) as I assumed grades were associated with year group e.g. Level 4 year 4 etc...so confused as to how 4A is closeto year 6 work...can anyone shed some light please?

Many thanks,
Ogg x

National expectations for year 2 are 2b

National expectations for year 6 are 4b

Levels go like this:

2b national expectations year 2
2a
3c
3b
3a
4c
4b national expecetaions year 6
4a
5c
5b etc etc

So expected progress (satisfactory) is 6 sublevels over 4 years of KS2 - i.e. 1.5 sublevels per annum.
You say your daughter was 4a at the end of year 4 for maths, 4c for english at the end of year of year 4,

A 4a at end year 4 should be at least a 5a at the end of year 6 (at satis progress rates), a 4c at the end of year 4 should be at least 5c at the end of year 6 at satis progress rates.

Hope that's clear.

This explains each level. It is 'best fit' so just because they may show one part of a higher level they have not necessarily achieved that level
