12+ entry

Post by Waiting_For_Godot »

Is there a list of schools that have a 12+ entry? I think Bucks do but I want to find a site or some info on grammar schools nationwide that do this.

To the best of my knowledge, Bucks is the only area with a formal 12+/13+ process. The current process is outlined here https://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/schoo ... -procedure" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , but some schools are proposing to administer their own tests from 2013 viewtopic.php?f=12&t=23462" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The only area that claims not to permit entry to grammars after Year 7 is Redbridge, although I have always assumed that there must be some form of late test when a vacancy arises.

In all other areas the "12+" will not be formalised, but simply be some form of late entrance test, usually administered by the school itself, in the event that spaces arise.

Gloucestershire grammars all allow for some kind of testing for transfer post-11+.

Some have 11+ style for Y7 / Y8, others have exams that are compared with the existing cohort and if the applicant reaches a suitable standard, then they will be offered a place. IF there IS a place. If the school is full, then an appeal would be needed.

However, often children have left within the first year, so though full, it could be argued that the school can cope with extra pupils at the appeal.

I know a family who sucessfully got into st George's, harpenden (over subscribed state school) after failing for a year 7 entry. They were out of catchment. Maybe its worth trying this route. They didn't have to do any entrance exams.
