Should I ask for extra time?

My ds is dyspraxia. I have a letter from OT saying he would benefit from extra time in enterance exams due to his poor handwriting and slowness.

In school he has no extra time and doesn't require any special treatment, laptop etc.

Should I apply for extra time in the exam?

Could I not forward the letter to the school but if he doesn't get in use it in an appeal?

Would appreciate advice from anyone who's child has SEN.

Would his speed in a multiple choice exam be affected?

My dd has diabetes, I was told if she felt ill she could leave the room when doing the 11+ (not entrance exam) but that no extra time would be allowed. In GCSE's at state schools extra time is allowed, up to 25%.

Most dc don't take all their extra time. As Mystery says, would it be useful for multiple choice?
