CEM Comprehension verbal reasoning

Post by fatbananas »

I've just looked at the Bexley sample test. The "comprehension" was an extremely short passage with a question attached to it. Is this the sort of comprehension that CEM generally produce? Or do they also do much longer passages with different sorts of questions? Or is there no 'general' type of comprehension under CEM, and it could be anything???

Do you mean from this practice paper? Or the sample questions or the familiarisation booklet? The first one is probably closer to the real thing, although possibly still slightly on the short side.

The practice paper comprehension passage is quite short, but nothing like the familiarisation paper one. Might they do mix of lengths within the same paper?

On the bexley website you can't find the practice paper.

ds reckons that the real comprehension was longer - which makes sense as in that practice paper 7 minutes was given for that comprehension, out of 34 minutes in total (whereas the real test is 45 minutes). And the real thing is more time pressured than that too.

The familiarisation and sample questions are really just to give an idea of the way they're laid out, and shouldn't be used as in indication of length of sections in the real thing.

I thought the comprehension was two sides long and the questions quite difficult and time pressured. In fact, I thought comprehension was possibly the hardest part, but that's perhaps just me. Dd2 agrees, but she's always been better at maths and nvr. Vocab and speed so important.
