I am such a veteran now that I feel able to give some advice for those parents whose children sit next academic year!

1 Don't listen to what your children say when they come out of the test - they tell you that they got everything wrong and it was incredibly difficult and that they have failed - they really haven't got a clue!

2 Don't worry if they don't get 98% on practise papers - it doesn't matter. My son was getting 78% sometimes 85% on a really good day, but he clearly pulled out all the stops on the day.

3 Don't worry if other children's parents said that the test was easy when your kids are telling you it was hard. They are clearly misguided. If your children find it hard, so do all the rest.

4 Stay focussed. We did work hard up to the test - me included because I always sat the same test papers with my children at the same time.

5 Keep looking at this website. It is brilliant. I am so surprised at the amount of success from parents here - it is wonderful as we have got to know one another over the long months of waiting. I think there are some we haven't heard from yet, but most have passed. It would be good to do a head count!

6 Don't be bitter if you can't afford private prep school for your children. It sincerely is of absolutely no consequence at all. My children go to a VERY middle of the road primary who have very middle of the road results in the league tables. It is YOU the parent who counts.

That's me done. Any more advice anyone? I would have loved to have had more advice from previous parents when i started down this road with my children, but this website was in its infancy then.

Let's hope that we can all continue to support our children in secondary school and beyond.

A big thanks for the tips, any and all welcome.

Congratulations on getting both through, an excellent result.

Have been sharing in everyones joy, many quite rightly must be walking on air after all the ups and downs they've been through. Bringing water to the old eyes.
