Finding space for new academies (free schools)

Post by mystery »

Do all new academies set up under the free school legislation struggle during the planning permission stages?

Trinity School in Riverhead near Sevenoaks got a heap of objections, including from the local council, for wanting to set up in an empty office block near a main road with narrow pavements not far away and not enough parking spaces for parents to park.

It was approved in the end ( not sure if at local level or by Eric Pickles) but all the arguing against the objections must have taken up a lot of time that would have been better spent by the school on planning for the future education of the children. But having a public procedure which permits objections from individual members of the public is still valuable.

Fortunately, the predictions of traffic and pedestrian disasters from the objectors do not seem to have come to fruition in Riverhead.
