DD has got into both schools. Dilemma is which one to pick? Anyone going through the same /similar dilemma please can you share what you are thinking. Any advise on private vs grammar school will be very very helpful

One you pay for, one you don't. That sums up the main difference I think.

People choose HABS because of the superior facilities, teacher to pupil ratio and the higher socio-economic class of parents prevalent.

Including myself, I know two other mums who selected Habs over HBS - some of the reasons are given in the earlier thread.. others are Siblings in Habs girls or boys, distance to travel daily, facilities... it may not be at the top of the League table but overall Habs is a great school. HBS is a great school too.

The boys at Habs use the same coach as the girls so they get to mix with boys too. Some parents may not like this, we didn't initially but now we think it is a good idea.

We let our DD decide, thankfully she picked Habs. Both kids in one place (well divided by a wall).

In order to pick HABS over HBS then you have to think that they are offering you more (otherwise you wouldn't pay). The question is 1) what extra things do you think they are offering? and 2) is that worth £x thousand pounds to you over the next 5-7 years?
I personally cannot see what the local independent schools offer over and above the very good N London selectives but I am sure other people can see lots of advantages. It really depends on what those are worth...

Onehappymum, have a look in the Independent schools section, there are at least two threads running on there about the whole private versus grammar debate.
