This could save a lot of money:

I couldn't recognise my name when I started school and couldn't write it in full correctly for another year.

I also read an article a few years ago that said that the age that a child starts to talk is an effective predictor. This could be logged/I think is already logged by health visitors. http://brain.oxfordjournals.org/content/133/8/2185" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The reality is that it is motivation that carries a child through. It doesn't matter how bright, if their is no motivation and they don't want to work they won't.
