Hi all,
Can anyone please tell me which grammar schools are good for Maths? We live in Bromley and our local grammar school is Newstead Wood. Is Newstead wood focussed on Humanities and Arts?

We are happy to relocate for the right school.

Thanks
Bluedrop

There are no specialist schools any more. I would say all GS focus on Maths as its an essential GCSE.

If you mean a GS that looks beyond the syllabus then look for participation in UKMT challenges and visits to maths talks.

St Olaves is known to be tough for its maths at 11+ and many swap between NW and StO for sixth form depending on options (and the tradition of StO getting rid of even the bright over the super bright). NW has a history of an Engineering strength but as others have said before specialisms are no longer the 'thing'. If you look at the destinations for NW a lot are traditionally into medical science but at GCSE it trumps StO and then the girls go to StO and bump up its A level results and only thus it does the best at A Levels. Or so that is one interpretation.

Wilmington Girls used to have a Maths/IT specialism. Also 10% of their PAN is allocated to girls who score highest maths marks in the Kent test.

How very interesting. Does it translate into higher grades at GCSE and A level Maths? DG

Mehere - specialisms do not exist any more - the funding ended years ago.
