Take some time off or try to introduce 'fun' ways of practice, We used to do simple things like walk down to the shop and buy 2 packs of ice lollies or some sweets and get DD to calculate the change ect. For verbal reasoning you could play hangman or boggle. Your child has probably had enough so I would take a break from test now and take a more relaxed approach for a couple of days.

Thanks all - really helpful we've given him a few days off (he's delighted!) and will take your advice and focus on the dodgy bits - and pray that blasted scrambled sentences doesn't come up
