My DD got 217, which was 1 short , however, people have told me that Townley dropped the pass mark in previous years and offered to those who did not get selected - does anyone know if there is any truth in this? As I would have thought that if not selected, you would not put it on the common application form - so I am confused by this.

The school will appeal if we want though, as she passed the Kent test well.

One more point, does anyone know if Townley runs any buses from nearby railway stations?

Townley took all girls that passed and applied last year and year before. Am not sure about dropping pass mark though. I suggestyou call the school. Most of these schools are good and will giveyou the information.

Please anyone correct me if am wrong, I think you may need to appeal though for a place. I think they took a few extra girls that did not appeal a couple of years ago.

I think you need to plan an appeal rather than hoping they will take some more children in. If you win an appeal then you are treated as though you have passed.

Have a look at the appeals Q&A (appeals forum - green banner at the top) - lots of info. Basically you will need evidence of ability and any evidence as wo why your DC did not do so well on the day.

Have a read then fire away with the questions!

Being just 1 mark short, if you apply you will automatically be placed on the waiting list. The 217s will be offered a place when every other selective child has been offered a place, in accordance with the admissions criteria, sibs, distance etc.
It's not lowering the pass mark as such but the fairest way to fill the vacancies.

It is not Townley that drops marks but bexley council as they always want to fill their empty seats which is fear thing to do. It applies to Beth as well. They are very big school of about 32 in a class. Townley has 7 forms in a year class and each form is not less than 30 so Townley will take over 210 pupils.

get in touch with headteacher for review, you can also appeal, sometimes, they can just contact you to bring your daughter by the end of June or early July, then again in September if some fails to show up. I know students that gone in thru this.

seems sensible - shame they dont do this in the medway.
