Wow! But how can a child be sure he didn't make silly mistakes in a test? What did you find was useful prep for the speed ( but lack of thinking?) required for bexley?parent2013 wrote:My ds found Bexley a cakewalk but he wasn't happy with the format & exam arrangements. The test was more a test of speed and time management rather than ability to solve challenging questions. I am keeping it as a back up option anyways.
I could see the difference in standards compared to Olave, QE & Sutton which tend to give more challenging questions to filter out exceptional ones from the rest.
In QE, there was only 1 question which surprisingly bugged him, other than that he crushed all remaining 49. Same for St. Olave, he managed to solve all Q & revise well before time and I'm hopeful that he should get full (or max lose one or two odd due to lack of focus). Wilson 1st round is also positive which has boosted his confidence to crack the 2nd round. Can't wait for mid Oct to see results.

I saw your comment about music being Judd's specialism..... don't worry about that.... hardly any of the boys do anything musical. It is very much a maths school.

Hi parent2013,
Am I correct in thinking this was all about Maths? How did you prepare for the comprehension part? Also, for St Olave's, how did you prepare for the English exam? I noticed that the level was very high in contrast to the Bond papers. Also, the written essay was difficult to mark as how do you assign marks for creativity? I have another son and I'm still looking for ideas! Thank you.

I bought a book of English Comprehensions from Amazon. It had a lot of traditional texts that I heard was good preparation.
I asked an English teacher friend about the essay. She gave me a formula to use. I'll let you know if he's successful!
Lol

Yes, thank you. Any advice will be useful for my second son. Assuming they don't change the exam? What book was that?

We used CGP 11+ English with Assessment Tests. Also Schofield& Sims KS2 Comprehension book 4.
