St. Olaves test today

Well DS found the maths fine but really struggled with the English and in the end only wrote about one paragraph. Should I be writing off this school now and does anyone know, when they send out the results, if he will be told one combined mark or if they split up the papers? I am assuming they don't just send 'fail'.

The result is determined from both exams: 50% English, 50% Maths. They normally send a letter out in October saying that your son will be likely to get in, will possibly get in, or is unlikely to get in. (They do not send out marks at all, not even if you ask nicely!)

The 2014 intake has a few "possiblies", so if you get that letter it may be worth hanging on.. The "likely" letter is as good as a yes.

The results are posted on 10th October so I will be waiting at the gate for the postman on the 11th!

My son worryingly found it all quite easy (easier than the 11+) which probably just means he made loads of careless mistakes that he is unaware of! In the creative writing he apparently wrote about Content removed by Moderator in case it benefits late testers I would love to be able to read that one!

Good Luck to all of you waiting for results.

Please don't post any questions or hints as it may help the late exam takers (and give them unfair advantage)

Maths was easy i.e. high scoring. Comprehension was also ok. English writing was tricky.

Although it was a hard topic, the children that are trained by our local tutor wrote 1.5 - 2 pages.

It is not 50% Maths and 50% English. It is standardised (not age; weighted towards English). Please don't ask me, write to St. Olave's exam team instead.

Results are graded as
likely (means you are in; :D )
possibly (on borderline & need tons of luck to get in; ) and
not likely :(

Admission Policy says -

Those whose parents/carers wish them to be considered for a place will be required to sit tests in English and Mathematics at the School designed to assess candidates’ suitability for an academic education. Scores will be standardised and then aggregated to allow a ranking of candidates. The testing will be competitive and the first one hundred and twenty four in rank order will be offered places. In the event of aggregate scores being tied on the final place(s) in the rank order, candidates will be offered places firstly on the basis of performance in the Mathematics test and then, if required, on the basis of their score in th e creative writing section of the English test.
