Disagree that this period should be compulsory at GCSE. Most schools will do WW2 at primary level and at KS3; it is currently covered again at GCSE and, according to the 6th-former who showed us round a school this morning, for a fourth time at A-level. I believe a government study identified that it's possible to study National Socialist Germany (phrased to avoid the dreaded asterisks - my first time! :D ) and WW2 no less than 6 times in a typical school career. If I was German I think the phrase "get over it" would be somewhere in mind.

I would agree that the content is a crucial element in whether to choose history. If the period and the focus of study isn't of interest then I would suggest it would be best not to bother.

Well she has gone for history so we'll see how it goes. Although with all the earthquakes maybe geog would be appropriate. Options now done. Let's see if DD can tackle her bedroom next. Art materials and bits of paper all over the place....I like a nice collage the same as the next person but between textiles and art I think that door will be staying shut...for the next few years!!

Hope she enjoys it. DS is, has already done a battlefields trip, off to Berlin at May half-term.

As for bedrooms, though… In DS’s case it’s sports stuff strewn everywhere, never washed. Me and Mrs C try to avoid it all costs

Any space under the bed?
You can get reasonably priced plastic crates with lids that fit under. Great for storing Art & Textiles materials & half done projects etc.
Can't make them use them of course! but if it all gets too bad you have somewhere to scoop the whole lot into :)

Glad the decision is made.
