GCSE options

Post by honscupboard »

Hello
First time selector of options here - need some general advice about subjects, with no real idea about careers so wanting to keep all avenues open.
Compulsory 3 sciences, maths and english.
Have to choose 5 more.
Also have option to do AS level Science in Society. Is this any use and what are the advantages of taking an AS in year 11?
Please help in advance of options evening this week , so at least I can ask some intelligent questions!!!
PS Totally non musical !!!!

Go for subjects that are enjoyed - if the Ebacc is important to you (I don't rate it myself) then choose a language and history/geography.

Mr Gove is saying all GCSE courses will be assessed at the end of Year 11 so I would have thought an AS is not a good idea; Year 11 will be more even more stressful with all the exams!

Is English Literature not compulsory? Read the options booklet carefully to ensure there is not an overload of controlled assessments.

Yes, sorry, English lit and language compulsory.
Daughter keen on Geog, Spanish, Religious/Moral Philosophy (strong at their school)
PE and Drama. Is doing 2 non academic subjects a no-no?
