English literature GCSE- edexcel

Post by zvrk »

Hello,
My son, who is very able in maths and sciences, at the moment struggles with his English literature GCSE, particularly poems and searching for meanings of them and generally analysing them. As English is not my first language I am unable to help.
Are they any self help books/ sites he can visit to get out of this rut ( of not understanding what teacher is teaching him).

Poems are no different at all to Comprehension, you just have to know what type of things you are looking for.

He should have been taught how to pick apart a poem in great detail. Has that not happened? DG

Thank you for your reply.
This is something I will have to talk to him in detail to see what exactly he knows or doesn't.
Comprehension was never his strong point, and I can see him switching off this as well , because it's not something with comes naturally to him.
He is not one of boys who asks for help when goings get tough. This might be time when he'll have to accept some help.
