AS retakes

Post by youngest »

Does anyone have any experience of universities only looking at the first grade obtained at AS and discounting retakes?
Getting some information now from school that this is the case, but looking for actual evidence!
Thanks

I think as long as you retake within the same school year, it will be the higher grade that will be looked at.(ie retake in June following a poorer than expected January result) It may have a bearing if you retake a Y12 module in y13, as you won't have that result when making your application to university.

My understanding is that from this Summer, state schools have to declare results of all AS examinations sat and all module marks on UCAS forms . students will not be able to retake units without universities being aware of this. Independent schools will, in practice, have to follow, otherwise it will look as if their students have something to hide.

There are no hard and fast rules about retakes, but, admissions tutors for competitive courses at competitive universities are likely to scrutinize a student's record to help them discriminate between candidates and if there are a number of retakes for no apparent reason, they will not look quite as good as a candidate who has had no resits.
