Early A Levels

Post by tco »

Dear all,

How do Universities view taking A Levels early?

eg how are they counted when they offer grades for a course?

or are offers only made on those A Levels taken in the final year?

My child has the possibility to take an A level early having already completed the GCSE

My daughter took Maths (both AS and A2 ) one year ahead .She achieved A grade for both exams .
When applying for university Durham still wanted 3 A's taken at the same time so ignored the maths.
York, her insurance wanted 2 A's taken together . It appeared that York was prepared to take account of the maths AS & A2.
The answer is some will but others will not .

Thanks catcool

I'm not seeing much upside in doing them early but I guess Universities want to see the results across three A level's taken simultaneously.

Hope your daughter is doing well at her University.

I asked about this at parents' evening and apparently Cambridge count A levels taken early but no allowance is made for a poorer grade.
