What are schools' expectations in this area? Would be very useful to know.

Ours state that same amount of time as spent in formal lessons should be spent in homework/further study (as a rough guide).

How many hours is that? Schools vary in their teaching hours. Thanks.

My DD gets 4 hours 10 mins of teaching per subject at AS, and is expected to do 5 hours of private study per subject - but the reality is that homework takes much longer than that.

I had a feeling you might ask that. I think they have 9 lessons (1 hour each) per subject over 2 weeks, but yes, generally homework takes longer. I think it's probably a guide to the minimum that would be expected in order to keep up.

We recommend 5 hours per subject as a rough guide.
