Ah, I was getting confused with all the A's! Definitely agree with you about better to get four top grade AS's (and nice high ums) than do a fifth and not get such good marks.

And I think chucking in CC as a 5th is a bit more work than CT or GS. I don't know about GS, but at my dd's school, they just have one lesson a fortnight to study CT.

Re: Classical Civilisation
Am not sure that any lessons make that much difference to GS..
CC is definitely quite a lot of work

Re: Classical Civilisation
I guess that's what I'm looking for , some info about how much work is involved.
My older ones definitely had a double per week in GS that was a total waste of time.
Thanks for the information, trouble is, my son is really interested in all things Greek and Roman. Seems like it's not a bad option as a 4th, but 5 is too much, my own thoughts exactly

Re: Classical Civilisation
has you had a hunt in "thestudentroom" forum?
there are a lot of threads about A levels and CC has come up there - you could always register and ask the question to get it from the horse's mouth so to speak
They seems to cope with us parents bumbling around

Re: Classical Civilisation
Oh really ....have you registered Herman ?
I am trying really hard her to not be too pushy and involved but it is excruciatingly difficult aaaaaarrrrrrrgh.
However next week I will probably be asking if History is a good 4th AS on the basis he has been changing his mind every week or so.
I live on the basis that to be forewarned is to be forearmed hence my questions.
Thanks

oh yes - very funny - one mother was given earache by some students and the mods (all students) soundly defended the presence of parentsLooking for help wrote:Oh really ....have you registered Herman ?
yes it is hard to sort the A level subjects - my main concern was that having carefully chosen the subjects then they wouldn't fit in the timetable

Ah yes this is true.
Hopefully there won't be time for 5 which will end the discussion

Re: Classical Civilisation
My DS2 took Classical Civilisations at AS level last year and enjoyed it so much he wants to read it at university. To put it in context, he is at a super-selective, and his other A2 subjects this year are Maths, Further Maths and Physics (as well as the Classical Civilisations). So I'd say go for it if he's interested.
ETA (He took Economics as his other AS level, ie 5, if that helps.)
