Hi Marylou

Sorry to hear it's not going too well.

Daughter of some friends of ours was in exactly the same situation 3 years ago - rejected by all of her options for Vet Med. Anway the good news is that she took a Gap year and got into Liverpool the following year.

The key thing is to concentrate and get A levels and work experience

Good luck and best wishes for next year. Unless of course she is offered Bristol. You never know.

Thanks again. DD hasn't discounted the possibility of applying abroad. There are a surprising number of courses taught in English in Eastern European Countries, that are accredited by RCVS - and cheaper, as well! I wasn't aware of the South African one though, Loopy - will have to look into that one. :)

At the moment it's just one step at a time, with A-level modules the main priority for the next few weeks. DD is philosophical about Bristol, there is a chance, sure - but we're just hoping that any bad news doesn't arrive the night before an exam! :?

Easy way round that Marylou, just don't open any envelopes until after the exams!

Good luck to her, not personal experience, but I just remember a good friend of mine who was told by school not to stay on to do A' levels. She had always wanted to be a vet, so this was something of a shocker. She stayed on and applied for medicine instead (only because offers were lower) and fortunately did not make the grade to do that. Did resits in a third year of sixth form, as was possible then (is it now)? And then once she had her results phoned every Cambridge college which offered places for Vet Sci and personally spoke to each and every admissions tutor. She finally got a place at one Cambridge college. So she started two years late, she did have lots of work experience, and so far as I know, had no academic problems with the course, and no probs finding jobs afterwards, and loved the Cambridge course.

As for the fees, well, um, no answers to that one. Is Cambridge more generous with bursaries etc as they have pockets of funding at college as well as uni level? Maybe lots of years working as a vet nurse saving up before the course?

She is obviously a determined young lady so with hard work and perseverance will get there. Good luck with Bristol.
