That may be so loopy, but I still tend to agree with the idea of positive discrimination (not social engineering :evil: ) for those coming from poorer schools or a disadvantaged background. I hadn't realised that such courses were there, and when the time comes because my son is at a school that is non selective, he may be able to benefit. And that's just great news, because he has been through the mill thanks to the selective system in this case, and that is not fair - to clarify his CAT scores suggest he will achieve 10 GCSE grades A/A* - none of his siblings came close to that, yet qualified at 11+

I don't believe the candidate Marylou is talking about is getting in through the Gateway programme, and in her case the fact that someone got an offer with non relevant A Levels is a whole different discussion
