Anyone looked at studying in Europe?

At least one of the uni's we looked at (may have been utrecht) had two cohorts per year-September and February, so the February start may be a better option for an English A level student as you can apply post results and potentially start in the spring rather than waiting a whole year.

Thank you for all the advice! Ds2 is just starting Yr 11 so I'll ask him to research.

If degrees go up to £15K a year this will mean a saving of £60,000 on a 4-year degree, which is a lot...I also feel that living in another country will broaden his thought and horizons as a young adult.

The one thing you cannot judge currently is the impact, if any of Brexit. It is very unlikely that European countries will continue to offer free or low cost degrees to British students, when Brexit happens.

But (to get back on my hobbyhorse again!) the options to come out of an undergraduate degree without any debt will still be available in the US, whether we're in or out of Europe! Though DDs or DSs will need a 'hook' such as being Oxbridge level or particularly good at sport to get the top levels of funding.

If anyone's even vaguely interesting in studying across the Atlantic then it's worth spending some time at the US College Day, which is on 23 and 24 September this year. There are dozens of exhibitors who will be very keen to help with details of courses, scholarship options, application support and more.

I'm happy to chat via PM if anyone's thinking of travelling along this particular path.

We recently took a trip over to the Netherlands for a short break and to look at The University of Amsterdam and Utrecht University (both 25 mins by train from Schiphol airport- flight took 35 minutes!) When we were looking round UvA we met someone who dealt with admissions. She said in her faculty they admit 300 students per year, with only about 40 starting in Feb. They usually only have about 10 British students starting each year. They have got round the A level problem by relying heavily on predicted grades, school report and the essay students must write as part of her faculty's admission procedure.

University starts 10 days after A level results, but many students arrive on 1st August because that is when their accommodation contracts start. The lady we spoke to did not think Brexit would have an impact... but then we would all like a crystal ball on that one!

It is certainly worth a trip over.

DS is thinking about Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology.

Does anyone know about this university or have an opinion on the course or European study now we are triggering Article 50?

Luckily DS is Y10, so we can wait and see. If he decides on an area of study at least it will help shape his A level choices this time next year.
