History V100

Post by CarpeDiem »

My son has just started studying History course V100.

Apart from the obvious kudos of studying at Oxford/Cambridge etal what is the difference (if any) of studying this course at other universities as so many offer this course code?

Do they all take the same exam at the end (obviously depending on modules selected)?

Please excuse my ignorance but this is my first child off to uni and he has done all the prep himself.

Hi - none of the unis will do the same exam as each other.

Some have very broad courses with lots of choice, other are more prescriptive with more choice later on

History can cover modern / medieval or ancient - make sure you know who does what where

Some encourage studying courses from other subjects to broaden the study eg Int Relation, politics, a language

Where is he studying?

Bangor.

He chose the Uni based on being able to study modern history and try archeology modules whilst not being too far from home. He also liked the availability to study abroad for a year as well.

We were very impressed with the Uni when we visted compared to some others that were much higher up the league tables. At the end of the day it was his choice to go there I just hope he is happy and does well.

V100 is just the UCAS code for History - all courses will have different content and different exams.

Universities do have visiting examiners to ensure standards are 'broadly similar' but that's it.

Most uni depts have good web sites if you are interested in seeing more about his course. Some parts may require a student login but you can often see quite a lot about modules etc.
