Absolutely - I assume he does realise this?

For Medicine, of course, his subjects are fine, dependent on grades but there are other considerations such as getting relevant work / volunteering experience and so on. Whereas a university Maths Department might love to know how well he can reflect on time spent with the residents in his local dementia care home, it is less likely to be a crucial part of their decision-making process.
