A friend's son who has done 2 years studying Chemical Engineering at Aston has been struggling to find an industrial placement for the next year, despite excellent marks in exams and a willingness to travel anywhere. He has just got to the final 2 for a placement on Teesside (after two gruelling technical interviews) but been disappointed again. Does anyone (Tinkers??) have any suggestions or contacts with (maybe smaller) companies he could try, or larger places that could squeeze in an extra?

Short note, at work.
Oil and gas traditionally takes a big number along with the big contracting companies that serve them but the low oil price has hit hard (we've had big job losses and no pay rise two years running and we are doing better than most). Hence the problem I think. We won't be taking any one so doubt others are either.

Think a little outside the box. Food, drink, water etc. All employ Chem engers, but they aren't people's first thoughts. Maybe trying companies that make equipment like heat exchangers etc.
Also small chemical companies are worth a shot.

Yes and my OH's previous employers (ICheme) have done too good a job recently at increasing the number of students studying chem eng ....

(PS OH has made several similar suggestions too, just hoping for something new on the ground. Ah well..

Thinking a little more outside the box then,
What about companies that do control systems?
What about safety and or environmental consultants?
(Both specialisms in chem eng that are highly sort after.)
