144---->10 = 10 + 2 = 12 (x 12)

81------>7 = 7 + 2 = 9 (x 9)

49------>5 = 5 + 2 = 7 (x 7)

25------>(----) = 5 x 5 which means the answer is 3 as 3 + 2 = 5 (x5)

But this is the non mathematical not quite got an O level reply although the answer was the same

144 = 12 x 12, 12 - 2 = 10

81 = 9 x 9, 9 - 2 = 7

49 = 7 x 7, 7 - 2 = 5

25 = 5 x 5, 5 - 2 = 3

Knowledge of square numbers is essential for 11+ maths.

On a separate note, Amandee, the Redbridge VR test is set by GL ASsessment, and Learning Together's resources are not appropriate practice materials for the test. You can find the correct materials for both VR and NVR here http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/shop/Essex-Redbridge/

Edit: Cross-post with faitaccompli - she snuck in while I was hunting down the link!

Hi amandee

I meant to say that the Redbridge (Essex) test is set by GL, and I have now edited my post accordingly.

Please make sure that you are using the right materials.
