Redbridge 11+ selection test: School Admission in September 2015
For this September, Redbridge will be making changes to the 11+ examination process. This will affect children who are applying for a place at one of the two grammar schools to start in September 2015.

For the examination in September 2014 the tests will be held at Woodford County High School and at Ilford County High School. Further details on the arrangements will be published on this website in due course.

The examination in September 2014 will use test materials from the University of Durham CEM Centre, which assess pupils’ understanding and application of knowledge and skills taught in the Key Stage 2 curriculum. The University of Durham CEM produce a familiarisation booklet to inform parents and candidates about their selective assessment (11+ examination). The booklet includes examples to indicate the range of skills required to complete the assessment and the manner in which questions are answered. This familiarisation booklet is NOT definitive and the inclusion of any question types does not guarantee that they will be found in the final assessment.

Not before time too. An exam that tests general ability especially in the English language as opposed to just NVR & VR will help to get more rounded pupils in to the system in Redbridge.

I wish this was available sooner, good that it's finally here.

At last it's a very good news for all parents. They can be bit relaxed and concentrate more into teaching their children about the basic concepts of Maths and English than sending their children to tuition centers without even knowing what they are leaning there.
Now the preparation for these exams would help the children in long run not just like learning the Verbal and Non Verbal (without any proper explanation by tutors with no proper qualification). I would advice the parents to visit to CEM website at http://www.cem/org/intu/information-for-parents" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; before they make any big decision on your child 11+ education.

I agree with everyone else - the change is good for the children.
On the exam day, will everyone fit into two schools?

Hi all ,

My daughter will be sitting the exam this year, we have been tutoring her at home.The drastic changes from gl to cem has surprised us all. Did hear the rumour before but did not think they would change 6 months before!
Agree that the natural ability of a child is wanted, but we all need to enhance their potentials. Would be grateful for some good advice on books and PM me a good tutor or centre for the CEM style exam.

We try to keep the forum as safe as possible - we don't allow tutors to be openly recommended, because it attracts posts with fake recommendations ('dodgy' advertising solely designed to solicit business on the internet).

Ice pop, I have to say I was in the same position last year. I home tutored my child and we were aiming for ultimately Latymer. We had armed ourselves with past Latymer papers and lo and behold Latymer changed to CEM. However, all I knew to do was to carry on in the same vein but 6 weeks to the exam had DD going through CEM 'style' exam papers. This final tweak seemed to make all the difference. My DD passed easily and after the exam her feedback was that she found it 'easy' as I had subjected her to strict exam conditions in the home environment.

As a DIY tutor my approach was to ensure she was thoroughly grounded in KS1,2 & 3 for English and Maths as well as skills in how to approach VR & NVR. I wanted her to be well grounded in her learning but at time of starting tutoring (year 2) was not clear as to what the 11+ was really about. This general approach worked for us really well and I am confident that once she starts at Latymer she will have no problem keeping up with her peers being that her foundations are strong.
