Hi

Currently DS is being tutored for 11+. How do I know if they(Tutors) are good ?

Also can someone recommend a tutor for entry to QE boys or Latymer?

Well, firstly, make sure that the tutor has a degree in the subject being taught: accept nothing less. Then, ask your child - is a lot of work being done in the lesson? Does the tutor set homework, and mark it? Does the tutor offer advice on how to improve on work set? Is the lesson enjoyable?

In other words, the same criteria as apply to any teacher.

I would say that you need to check if the tutor knows about the school(s) your DC will be applying for - if you're interested in QEB & Latymer then their exam styles are quite different: no NVR at Latymer, but all tests are standard format whereas QEB is MC etc. Your tutor should be aware of these differences and be able to teach a) these subjects with b) these styles. Past experience with these schools is important imo so they have an idea of the difficulty levels and what is to focus on. Eg Latymer maths is very wordy and often multiple level problem solving.
I made sure I was familiar with past papers/requirements and checked that the tutor was covering all of these.

Hi mehtab

There is plenty of advice here, especially on selecting a tutor: http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/services/11plus-tutors
