Hi
Last month we started our son with a certain chain of tutors (not sure if I can mention the name but they have centers all over the UK?).

We have noticed their assistants are very young and seem inexperience, probably PT grads. A few things we have picked up on is
1. The pupil mark their own work; some weeks the work has not been marked!
2. We picked up on our son does not understand letter sequences and we have not gone through the other work he has done because of time. But there could be other areas he has not understood. We got no feedback from them on this, we just happened ti discover this!

So in summary we have lost confidence with these guys and confused whether we should go for another class room style or one-to-one or diy approach? This time is crucial and we don't want to make the wrong decision?

Welcome to the forum

Tutors should give weekly feedback, have you asked? All work should be marked. Codes once learnt are relatively easy, perhaps they have not shown him a relevant method and technique. Sounds like time for a change.

Should you wish to DIY there are many members willing to help you through the process, take a look at the following thread...

Good Luck with your decision.

There is quite a lot of general advice about selecting tutors here: http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/services/11plus-tutors

I am also sending you a Private Message.
